Baseball Replay news: There is a twitter account by Major League Baseball that is called MLBReplays – it has video of every single play that is disputed on the instant replay rule. The tweet that is sent explains the play and the outcome along with a video link to watch the play.
May the 4th Be With You: May 4th ‘Star Wars Day’ some teams are celebrating this date in conjunction with the new Star Wars film slated for a December 18, 2015 release date… the Detroit Tigers are having a Star Wars Night for September 13th 2014 and the Cubs on August 20th, Mets on July 11th and many other teams – looks like a fun event. Major League Baseball sent out a tweet saying it was “May the 4th Be with you Day”
Inside the Park HR – Will Myers of Tampa Bay Rays hit an inside the park home run today, besides a steal of home …one of my favorite plays in baseball.
Today in Baseball History- from the National Baseball Hall of Fame… on this day in baseball in 1975, Bob Watson of the Houston #Astros scores the one millionth run in major league history. Watson scores the run on Milt May’s three-run homer, as part of the Astros’ 8-6 loss to the San Francisco Giants in the first game of a doubleheader at Candlestick Park.
The Atlanta Braves and third baseman Chris Johnson have agreed on a three-year extension, according to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal. The deal also includes a team option for 2018. Financial terms are not immediately known. As Rosenthal notes, the extension will buyout two arbitration years and at least one of Johnson’s free agent seasons. He is earning $4.75 million, so it’s safe to assume that the AAV of the deal should be a good deal higher.
Mike Pelfrey turned in another terrible start for the Twins Thursday, allowing five runs in four innings against the Dodgers to drop to 0-3 with a 7.99 ERA on the season. Pelfrey was also terrible for the Twins last season, going 5-13 with a 5.19 ERA in 29 starts, yet for some reason Minnesota felt the need to re-sign him and gave him a two-year contract worth $11 million. And now, five starts into that deal, it sounds like they’re preparing to dump him from the rotation. Manager Ron Gardenhire told reporters after the game that the coaching staff will meet to discuss the options with Pelfrey, but Samuel Dedunois available to step into the rotation if needed and the Twins also have top prospect Alex Meyer waiting in the wings at Triple-A. Re-signing Pelfrey struck me as a bad idea at the time and certainly looks even worse now, with a slight drop in velocity and horrendous control suggesting that he may not be at full strength physically in addition to simply not being all that good.
A baseball fan angry at a possible blown call ran onto the field during a game in South Korea and attacked an umpire, according to reports in the media and on Twitter.
The Associated Press reported that the unidentified 30-year-old fan ran onto the field in the 7th inning of Wednesday night’s game between the Kia Tigers and SK Wyverns at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field, the home ballpark of the Tigers.
Bob Costas was forced to answer nature’s call…in the middle of a baseball game! While covering the New York Yankees-Seattle Mariners matchup for the MLB Network, Costas asked his broadcasting partner John Smoltz, “How are your play-by-play skills?” “They’re not bad,” Smoltz replied. “Good. Take over for a while,” Costas said, before quickly bolting out of the broadcast booth mid-inning.
