Cards ready for McGwire’s coaching debut (AP)

OF Ross beats Marlins in arbitration (AP)

Outfielder Cody Ross has beaten the Florida Marlins in salary arbitration and will make $4.45 million rather than the team’s offer of $4.2 million. Arbitrators James Oldham, Margaret Brogan and Howard Edelman made the decision Tuesday, a day after hearing arguments. Ross hit .290 with 24 homers and 90 RBIs last season, when he made $2.3 million.

OF Chavez agrees to deal with Rangers (AP)

Outfielder Endy Chavez has agreed to a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers that includes an invitation to spring training. Chavez is recovering from knee surgery last July and is not expected to be fully healthy for the start of the regular season.
