Brewers claim RHP Estrada from Nationals (AP)

The Brewers have claimed right-hander Marco Estrada off waivers from Washington. The 26-year-old has pitched in parts of the last two seasons for Washington, going 0-1 with a 6.14 ERA in one start and three relief appearances last year. He was drafted by the Nationals in the sixth round in 2005. To make room for Estrada, the team designated right-hander Tim Dillard for assignment.

1B Kotchman, M’s agree to 1 year, $3.5M (AP)

Casey Kotchman and the Mariners agreed Wednesday to a one-year contract worth $3,517,500, settling Seattle's last salary arbitration case this year. The Mariners announced the deal for the 26-year-old first baseman less than a month after they acquired him from Boston for outfielder Bill Hall. The contract's value is exactly at the midpoint between the sides' proposals in arbitration.

Ramon Ortiz, Amezaga join Dodgers (AP)

Right-hander Ramon Ortiz and utilityman Alfredo Amezaga have agreed to minor league contracts with the Los Angeles Dodgers, hoping to return to the big leagues. Ortiz, who turns 37 on March 23, hasn't pitched in the majors since 2007 with Minnesota and Colorado. He was 5-6 with a 3.05 ERA last year in 16 starts and 19 relief appearances for San Francisco's Triple-A Fresno farm team.

Red Sox sign reliever Nelson (AP)

The Red Sox have signed journeyman reliever Joe Nelson and minor league catcher Gustavo Molina to minor league deals that include spring training invitations. The 35-year-old Nelson has played for five pro teams, including Boston in 2004 when he allowed five earned runs in 2.2 innings. Last season, Nelson went 3-0 with a 4.02 ERA for the Tampa Bay Rays before ending the year in the minors.

2 Fox Saturday games to be in prime time (AP)

Fox will air two of its national Saturday major league baseball broadcasts in prime time this season. It's the first time in the network's 15 years of televising the package that it will show two regular-season night games. They will be the first such prime-time games since 2004. The May 22 broadcast will feature Yankees-Mets, Red Sox-Phillies, Cubs-Rangers or Tigers-Dodgers.

Exploratory surgery for Jays’ Hayhurst (AP)

Blue Jays right-hander Dirk Hayhurst will have exploratory arthroscopic surgery to examine his sore right shoulder. The 28-year-old pitched in 15 games for Toronto last season, compiling a 2.78 ERA with no decisions. He also was 4-6 with a 3.75 ERA in six starts and 19 relief appearances for Triple-A Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League.

Weaver agrees to return to Dodgers (AP)

Jeff Weaver has agreed to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a minor league deal that includes an invitation to spring training. Weaver went 6-4 with a 3.65 ERA in 28 games for the Dodgers last year. The 33-year-old right-hander is 99-118 with a 4.67 ERA in 312 career games over 10 seasons. Weaver was born in Northridge and played college ball at Fresno State.
