Mariners, 1B Garko agree to 1-year deal (AP)

MLB sues Upper Deck over trademarks (AP)

Major League Baseball's licensing wing is calling out a baseball card maker for allegedly stealing trademarks. Major League Baseball Properties Inc. filed a trademark lawsuit seeking unspecified damages against The Upper Deck Co. Inc. on Monday in federal court in Manhattan. The lawsuit said Upper Deck is continuing to sell baseball cards featuring professional baseball players even though the…

Suit: Rangers, Hicks failed to pay $6.9M (AP)

An architectural firm and a construction company accused the Texas Rangers and owner Tom Hicks on Monday of failing to pay $6.9 million for more than three years' worth of work. In a lawsuit filed in state district court in Dallas, RTKL Associates Inc. and Vratsinas Construction allege that they are owed the money for work on a proposed development adjacent to Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

Jon Miller wins Frick Award (AP)

Jon Miller, who has spent parts of five decades as the voice of five major league baseball teams, was selected Monday as the 2010 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award. A native of San Francisco, Miller has called games for the Giants, Baltimore, Boston, Texas and Oakland, and has been the voice of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball telecasts for 20 years.

LHP Lowry pushes back throwing session (AP)

Lowry, 29, hasn't pitched in two years because of a variety of issues with his forearm and shoulder and is set to make a comeback bid.

Left-hander Noah Lowry is in great shape and gearing up for what he hopes will be a successful comeback to the majors this season after missing the last two years. Still, Lowry opted to push back a scheduled throwing session Tuesday in Arizona for major league teams to give himself more time to get ready for the audition.

Reds sign SS Cabrera, trade OF Taveras (AP)

A trade that saved some money made the Cincinnati Reds' next shortstop affordable. The Reds sent center fielder Willy Taveras to the Oakland Athletics on Monday as part of a four-player deal, then agreed to a $3.02 million, one-year deal with Orlando Cabrera to become their starting shortstop. Both teams made a series of moves that changed the looks of their rosters.

Jon Miller wins Frick Award (AP)

Jon Miller, who has spent parts of five decades as the voice of five major league baseball teams, has been selected as the 2010 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award. The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum made the announcement on Monday. The Frick Award is presented annually for major contributions to baseball broadcasting.

McLane apparently keeping Astros (AP)

Houston Astros owner Drayton McLane is apparently keeping his team. McLane, who bought the team in November 1992 for about $117 million, had set a Jan. 31 deadline for an investment group to make an offer. On Monday, McLane said "nothing materialized" and he was looking ahead to the 2010 season.

Yanks bring World Series trophy to Japan (AP)

The New York Yankees have brought their World Series trophy to Tokyo for the first stop of a six-day tour of Asia. A delegation of team officials, including team president Randy Levine and general manager Brian Cashman, accompanied the trophy as it was displayed Monday at the MLB Cafe in Tokyo. The trophy was displayed along with the Yomiuri Giants' Japan Series trophy.
