Mets agree with Cs Coste, Blanco (AP)

The Mets agreed to one-year contracts with Chris Coste and Henry Blanco, adding two backup catchers Thursday while they search for a starter. The 36-year-old Coste hit .224 with two homers and 18 RBIs in 205 at-bats last season with Philadelphia and Houston. He has a .272 batting average, 23 homers and 108 RBIs in 806 at-bats over four big league seasons.

Padres introduce broadcaster Enberg (AP)

Figuratively and literally, Dick Enberg was back in the batter's box. More than two decades after he last called big league baseball on a daily basis, Enberg was introduced Thursday as the San Diego Padres' new TV play-by-play announcer. The only real surprise was that he didn't drop his signature "Oh, my!" during a press conference at home plate at Petco Park.

The Oakland Athletics took a big step toward boosting their lackluster offense. The A's acquired third baseman Jake Fox, second baseman Aaron Miles and cash considerations from the Chicago Cubs on Thursday for three players. The Cubs got right-handed pitcher Jeff Gray, minor league outfielder Matt Spencer and minor league righty Ronny Morla.

M’s plan to spend at winter meetings (AP)

Jack Zduriencik (zur-REN'-cik) has money to spend at baseball's winter meetings. The Mariners' general manager said Thursday, four days before the meetings begin in Indianapolis, that Seattle "certainly has needs to fill" for 2010. The contracts of veterans Adrian Beltre, Miguel Batista and Erik Bedard and others expired, freeing up perhaps $30 million.
