Yankees acquire RHP Gaudin from Padres (AP)

The New York Yankees added another arm for the stretch run, getting right-hander Chad Gaudin from the San Diego Padres on Thursday night for a player to be named or cash considerations. The Yankees announced the trade during their 13-6 victory over Boston. The 26-year-old Gaudin is 4-10 with a 5.13 ERA in 20 games for the Padres, including 19 starts.

Fielder, Mota fined by MLB after run-in (AP)

Milwaukee Brewers star Prince Fielder and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Guillermo Mota were fined Thursday for their run-in this week. Major League Baseball will not suspend them. The amounts of the fines were not disclosed. "My agent took care of it. He told me I got fined, but he didn't tell me how much it was," Mota said before the Dodgers opened a four-game series against Atlanta in…

Now that Vladimir Guerrero is hitting the ball out of the park again, the Los Angeles Angels are downright giddy about how good they might be. "Oh boy, it's going to be exciting," said Bobby Abreu, who along with Guerrero, Jeff Mathis and Erick Aybar went deep in the Angels' 9-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday.

Tigers rookie Porcello earns 10th win (AP)

Alex Avila set off one of the most enthusiastic celebrations in the Detroit Tigers' front office box since Magglio Ordonez's homer lifted them into the 2006 World Series. The son of Detroit's assistant general manager hit a two-out RBI double in the third inning of his major league debut to help the Tigers beat the Baltimore Orioles 7-3 on Thursday.

Phillies’ Lee tops Rockies in home debut (AP)

Cliff Lee showed his new fans some of his best stuff. Lee pitched seven impressive innings in his home debut, Paul Bako hit a tiebreaking homer and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Colorado Rockies 3-1 Thursday. Lee (2-0) allowed one run and six hits, striking out nine in his first start at Citizens Bank Park since the Phillies acquired him from Cleveland last week.

Crowe’s RBI lifts Indians over Twins 2-1 (AP)

Minnesota Twins' Orlando Cabrera(notes) hits a single off Cleveland Indians pitcher Fausto Carmona(notes) in the fifth inning in a baseball game, Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, in Cleveland. Cabrera had two hits, extending his hitting streak to a career-high 16 games for Minnesota, which has lost five of six after a four-game winning streak. Cabrera is 10 for 20 since he was acquired from Oakland on Friday. The Indians won 2-1.

Rookie Trevor Crowe and the new-look Cleveland Indians made a small stir in the AL Central. Crowe hit a tiebreaking double in the seventh inning, helping the Indians beat Minnesota 2-1 Thursday to drop the third-place Twins 4 1/2 games behind first-place Detroit. "We wanted to win two of three here," Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire said after losing twice.

Dolan: Indians will lose $16M this year (AP)

With financial losses mounting and the Cleveland Indians underperforming, owner Paul Dolan has had to accept life in baseball's mid-market world. "Every four or five years, if we can have a shot at the World Series and compete for the playoffs like we did in '05, that's as good as it gets," Dolan said.

Mets get INF Hernandez from Nationals (AP)

The Mets acquired infielder Anderson Hernandez from the Washington Nationals for minor league infielder Greg Veloz. The 26-year-old Hernandez had stints with the Mets each of the previous four seasons. He was dealt to the Nationals last Aug. 20 to complete a trade in which New York acquired pitcher Luis Ayala.

No postgame tirades from Prince Fielder on Wednesday night. The Milwaukee Brewers had only their first series win in over a month to enjoy. The Brewers beat Los Angeles 4-1 behind Braden Looper's outstanding effort and Fielder had a tying RBI groundout in the victory that helped them take the series.
