Former C Leyritz released on bond (AP)

Former major leaguer Jim Leyritz was released on bond Monday, hours after a judge ruled he would not have to await his upcoming DUI manslaughter trial in custody. Broward County Circuit Judge Marc Gold decided Leyritz, who was jailed earlier this month on a charge of domestic battery against his ex-wife, could be released once he posted the $1,000 bond.

Nats fire Acta, name Riggleman manager (AP)

It was unclear who would replace Acta in Washington. Bench coach Jim Riggleman has managed the Padres, Cubs and Mariners.

So much for the plan to have Manny Acta's patient optimism lead the Washington Nationals out of the doldrums. The abysmal won-loss record became too much to stomach, costing him his job at the All-Star break and adding another layer of instability to the worst team in baseball. Obama to be in All-Star broadcast booth (AP)

President Barack Obama will be in the Fox broadcast booth for Tuesday night's All-Star game. Fox spokesman Lou D'Ermilio said Monday that Obama will join Joe Buck and Tim McCarver for the telecast from Busch Stadium but that the inning had not yet been determined. Obama is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, and Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols will be on the receiving…

Dodgers CEO: Ramirez ‘paid the penalty’ (AP)

The Los Angeles Dodgers' CEO says slugger Manny Ramirez has "paid the penalty" for violating baseball's drug policy and it's not for her to judge his actions. Jamie McCourt, in Israel for the 18th Maccabiah Games, said Monday she was as surprised as anyone when Ramirez was suspended.

Diamondbacks release veteran 1B Clark (AP)

The Arizona Diamondbacks have released veteran first baseman Tony Clark. The move was announced by executive vice president and general manager Josh Byrnes in a statement Sunday night. Clark batted .182 with four home runs and 11 RBIs in 36 games with the Diamondbacks this season. He hit .255 with 59 homers and 178 RBIs over parts of five seasons with Arizona.
