Rangers hit 5 HRs, end Angels’ run at 6 (AP)

Texas Rangers third baseman Michael Young(notes) throws out Los Angeles Angels' Kendry Morales(notes) after Morales hit a chopper off Ranger pitcher C.J. Wilson(notes) in the eighth inning of a baseball game in Arlington, Texas, Tuesday, June 30, 2009. The Rangers won 9-5.

Give Marlon Byrd some credit for this victory, a day after he blamed himself for a Texas Rangers loss. Byrd homered twice to drive in five runs and Texas again had its way at home against Joe Saunders, beating the AL West-leading Los Angeles Angels 9-5 on Tuesday night. "That's something that we needed," Byrd said.

Yankees win sixth straight, top Mariners (AP)

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira(notes), left, watches with a smile as closer Marinano Rivera throws out the ceremonial first pitch in a baseball game against the Seattle Mariners at Yankee Stadium in New York, Tuesday, June 30, 2009.

Mariano Rivera walked down off the mound, took a few more steps toward the plate and began the evening with a nice, soft toss. He ended it in much more familiar fashion, with a hard fastball for strike three. Rivera started what he finished and the New York Yankees, helped by Melky Cabrera's go-ahead double in the eighth inning, beat the Seattle Mariners 8-5 Tuesday night for their sixth…

Johnson, Giants best Carpenter, Cards (AP)

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols(notes) sits in the dugout during the ninth inning of a baseball game against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, in St. Louis. Pujols hit two home runs in the game, but the Giants won 6-3.

Albert Pujols has more home runs than strikeouts against Randy Johnson after going deep two more times off the big left-hander. So what if the St. Louis Cardinals' star is 11 for 24 with five homers, 14 RBIs and four strikeouts against the Big Unit? Johnson did enough against everybody else to earn his third straight decision and 303rd of his career in the San Francisco Giants' 6-3 victory…

White Sox pound Lee, defeat Indians in 6 (AP)

Cleveland Indians left fielder Ben Francisco(notes) avoids the tarp as the baseball game against the Chicago White Sox is delayed by rain in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday, June 30, 2009, in Cleveland.

The rainy weather stopped the game prematurely. The Chicago White Sox ended Cliff Lee's night soon after it started. Paul Konerko and Jermaine Dye drove in two runs apiece Tuesday as the White Sox chased Lee in the fourth inning and pounded the miserable Indians 11-4 in a game called in the seventh to move above .500 for the first time since May 2.

Rays push winning streak to 7, beat Jays (AP)

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Marco Scutaro(notes), left, waits for the ball as a sliding Tampa Bay Rays' Carl Crawford(notes) tries to steal second base during the seventh inning of a baseball game in Toronto on Tuesday, June 30, 2009.

Right from the first pitch, the Tampa Bay Rays had their power stroke going. B.J. Upton homered to leadoff the game, Carl Crawford and Willy Aybar added solo shots and the Rays won their seventh straight game Tuesday night, 4-1 over the Toronto Blue Jays. "We really lived by the long ball," Rays manager Joe Maddon said.

Rays push winning streak to 7, beat Jays (AP)

B.J. Upton, Carl Crawford and Willy Aybar hit solo homers and the Tampa Bay Rays won their seventh straight game, 4-1 over the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 on Tuesday night. Matt Garza (6-5) allowed one run and seven hits in seven innings to win consecutive starts for the first time since April 30 and May 5.

Haren homers, pitches Arizona past Reds (AP)

Arizona Diamondbacks' Mark Reynolds(notes), right, gets congratulated by teammate Justin Upton(notes) after Reynolds scored on a single by Gerardo Parra(notes) off Cincinnati Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo(notes) in the third inning of a baseball game Tuesday, June 30, 2009, in Cincinnati.

Dan Haren held the Cincinnati Reds scoreless into the seventh inning, showing why he's been the NL's stingiest pitcher in June, and connected on his first career homer Tuesday night during a 6-2 victory that snapped the Arizona Diamondbacks' longest losing streak of the season. Arizona had dropped five in a row and eight of nine, done in by the major leagues' worst defense and one…

Santana ready to rejoin Angels rotation (AP)

Ervin Santana came through a bullpen session with no problems Tuesday and Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia said the right-hander will be back in the rotation this weekend. "He said he's good," Scioscia said. "He's going to be pitching in the Baltimore series somewhere, we're pretty sure of that.

Rangers’ Hamilton expects to return soon (AP)

Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton(notes) pauses outside the cage during batting practice before the Rangers' baseball game against the Los Angeles Angels in Arlington, Texas, Tuesday, June 30, 2009. Hamilton is on the disabled list.

All-Star center fielder Josh Hamilton expects to return to the Texas Rangers lineup this weekend after a trip to Iowa for at least one more rehab game. "That's been my target the whole time, to get back some time during the homestand," Hamilton said Tuesday after working out with the Rangers.

Pirates’ Hinske to Yanks, Morgan to Nats (AP)

FILE - In this Sept. 7, 2008, file photo, Washington Nationals' Lastings Milledge(notes) avoids an inside pitch during a baseball game against the Atlanta Braves in Atlanta. The Nationals traded Milledge to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, June 30, 2009.

The Pittsburgh Pirates, swapping outfielders at a rapid rate for the second successive season, sent starting left fielder Nyjer Morgan to the Washington Nationals in a four-player deal involving outfielder Lastings Milledge and also shipped backup Eric Hinske to the Yankees on Tuesday. The Pirates, spurred to trade because their farm system has been unproductive, acquired Milledge and reliever…
